'Tis the Season

Here it is, December and Christmas is everywhere. I haven’t started my shopping yet; I don’t know what to get for anyone this year. Many of those on my list are fortunate enough to not “need” anything per se, and I’m not feeling moved to shop for just any old gift anymore.

Sure, I can buy my husband a remote car starter, the phone case he wants, and miscellaneous other items but when we sit in front of the Christmas tree and open these things ~ it’s over in minutes. I want to give gifts that MEAN something this year, the kind that will create lasting memories; that’s why I think I am going to approach this season a bit differently.

DWI at ChristmasSandwich Holly Days kicks off in town and features different events each weekend. We're going to go on the Holiday Homes Tour on December 6 and finish with dinner in the Conservatory under the twinkle lights overlooking the waterfall. The Inn is decorated – lights and festive décor around every corner; it's worth taking a stroll through. Time together with my husband and building a memory – that will be a great kick-off to the holidays.

Focus on the festivities this year; that's what I am going to try to do. I'm not going to get caught up in those crazy buying days – instead I'm thinking about different gifts to share this year. You'd better believe a night with all my nieces and nephews at Heritage Museum and Gardens for the Gardens Aglow is going to be on the list with burgers and pizza in the Tavern when we're done. Seeing their faces as we stroll through the sparkling gardens and go for a spin on the carousel; that will definitely be a gift. Of course I will get them a gift to unwrap... I bet I can find something right here at the Inn's Gift Shop.

Now what about gifts for my husband? Sure, there are “things” I could get him as I mentioned before but, I’m just not into “things” this year; maybe it’s because I’m another year older, I don’t know.  But, a gift of an overnight stay at the Inn – yes…. the Beach Plum Romance Package sounds like such a great escape – massages, scrubs, champagne and more. Wouldn’t that make a great gift wrapped under the tree? I will of course make it fun with some chocolates, maybe new slippers and a robe or something; and know that in two weeks we have a romantic weekend away! How fun! Or, maybe I’ll book us a room for New Year’s Eve. We can take in the 1st annual Sandwich First Night events, savor a romantic fireside dinner in the Music Room and wake to the new year in our cozy room at the inn.

There’s so many options; so many opportunities to create memories; after all, what kind of memories are created as I am running store to store and not seeing family and friends this season?  Take a moment, maybe you too can tie your shopping into creating memories…. Here’s some overnight escape ideas that may just help….
